AWYB Program

The AWYB Team has worked hard to ensure that being a cast member of AWYB's 'Don Quixote', or any future shows, is an incredible experience for young dancers. From the audition process through rehearsals and performances, we give young dancers a professional experience in staging a ballet. Members of AWYB will receive a 'Don Quixote' t-shirt as part of their involvement and have the option to purchase an AWYB jumper. All members receive a professional head-shot, and Principal and Soloist cast members will also have promotional photos taken in costume.

Students' AWYB fees are $400 for the season. This goes towards:

  • Tuition (10x Sunday rehearsals + Holiday Intensive)

  • Costumes and headpieces

  • Props and sets

  • Professional head-shot

  • Limited Edition AWYB 'Don Quixote' t-shirt

  • Studio and theatre hire

  • Music purchases and insurance

At the end of each AWYB season, 2 students will be awarded a full scholarship for the next season.

Don Quixote Synopsis

Albury Wodonga Youth Ballet is proud to bring one of ballet’s most loved romantic comedies to the Cube stage!

Based on the classic story by Miguel de Cervantes – widely considered the first modern novel ever written – the ballet follows the titular Don Quixote as he sets off on a quest to find his true love, Dulcinea.

Early on in this quest, he meets the young couple Kitri and Basilio. They wish to be married, but Kitri’s father Lorenzo demands that she instead marry the foppish nobleman, Gamache. Kitri and Basilio try to evade Lorenzo by seeking refuge with a group of travellers. Hilarity ensues as Don Quixote follows and attempts to fight a windmill, believing it to be a monster.

Eventually true love wins out and Kitri and Basilio celebrate their wedding. Don Quixote leaves for his next adventure…

With gorgeous music by Ludwig Minkus and incredibly talented up-and-coming ballet dancers from throughout the Border region, this production will provide entertainment for the whole family!
